Message from Mahmud
My name is Mahmoud. The horrific events I witnessed make me feel like I'm 100 years old. I lived with my family in the Jabila refugee camp in northern Gaza. Our life was normal until the war began. On October 20, 2023, just 13 days after the war began, I lost my beloved sister, her five children, and her husband in a horrific attack. This tragedy has left permanent scars on our hearts.
With our home destroyed and our hearts broken, my surviving family and I sought safety in southern Gaza and headed to Rafah. Unfortunately, Rafah soon became a target of attacks. Attacks forced us to flee the center of Rafah to the west, but the violence pursued us. Desperate to find safety, we bought a tent and moved to Deir al-Balah.
Now my family and I are displaced and living in a tent, terrified. We live under the constant threat of bombings and gunfire, and every moment we feel like we could lose our loved ones. We have lost our home, our friends, and the future we once dreamed of.
We urgently need your help to get through this nightmare and rebuild our lives.
I have always dreamed of continuing my education and building a better future for myself and my family. However, the ongoing conflict makes it impossible for me to study and grow here. I have fled Gaza and am exploring ways to continue my education outside where I can pursue my dreams in a safe and peaceful environment.
